The Senior Pastor, Enthronement House Christian Centre, Rev. Deji Olabode, has expressed concerns over the traffic challenge facing Lagos.
He spoke during the Enthronement House Christian Centre, Agidingbi Lagos reward to Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officers, Timothy Adefolalu, and his colleagues, Sesan Oloyede and Sola Coker for their excellence in service.
A statement said the special appreciation service which held in Ikeja, Lagos had about 40 LASTMA officials and zonal heads in attendance. They were recognised and appreciated with gifts and cash for their vital contributions in service.
On why the church decided to pick LASMA for recognition, he said, “We picked LASTMA for rewards at this time because they are at the helm of traffic management. Heavy traffic is one of the serious challenges we are facing in Lagos.
“We believe they are not well appreciated, and sometimes abused in the course of executing their mandates under adverse/harsh weather conditions. One of our core values as a church is love, and this is what we have extended to the officers.
He said the gesture was in line with the church’s practice of giving back to the community.
Olabode said, “We think more events should be created to periodically show appreciation, and present awards to the best performing officers of LASTMA for the great work they are doing. These awards can include cash, scholarships for their children or wards, business capital for their spouses etc. The events should be periodic (quarterly or annually) as this will spur competition amongst the officers and improve overall uprightness and performance while they look forward to them.”
Olabode while presenting them with the awards said, “Don’t criticise someone when you haven’t been in their shoes, wear their uniform, stand in the rain, under the sun, the heat from under, the heat from above. Let’s be understanding and also when we pass, they should not need to ask before we appreciate them because they are doing things we cannot do.”
