Polo Luxury said it fed more than 5,000 residents during the Ramadan period in Agege, Ebute Metta and Ilaje communities.
In a statement on Thursday, the company which sells luxury wristwatches and leather products said that it performed the initiative as prescribed by the Moslem faith which advised that charity was best done during Ramadan to the less privileged.
It was also done as part of its corporate social responsibility, the company said.
The stamen said that one of the recipients, the Vice Principal, Arabic and Islamic training centre, Morikaz, Agege, Ustaz Hameed, commended the effort on behalf of the school authorities.
He applauded their humane nature and commitment to supporting the school which had over 3,000 youths learning Arabic and Islamic studies, and had existed for 70 years.
The Ustas quoted the Koran in chapter two, verse 183 which encouraged support to the fasting faithful during Ramadan.
Another recipient Alhaja Sidika, who spoke on behalf of the aged women at Atere mosque, Ebute Metta, was quoted as saying that, “Providing free iftar meals in observance and obedience to Allah’s injunction of giving and sharing during Ramadan without expecting anything in return is kind but rare with corporate organisations and we are most thankful.”
Director, Polo Luxury’s Executive, Jennifer Obayuwana, responded to the community’s warm reception and emphasised the company’s commitment to encouraging social good and empowering disadvantaged communities.
She said, “We recognise the month of Ramadan as very important for Muslims across Nigeria. It is a time of reflection, prayers and an opportunity to serve others in need.”
“The donation of Iftar meals is a show of care and demonstration of support to communities as a corporate citizen.”
The company stated that it also distributed palliatives in several communities within the state during the COVID-19 pandemic induced lockdown.
